Dolega, the name Dolega comes from two terms used by the Dorace Indians: Dole = hummingbird, ga = bush, which means "the place of the hummingbird," and it was modified over time.

According to historians, Fray Antonio de la Rocha founded the town of Dolega in 1635. However, Alberto Osorio says it could have been in 1671 by Gómez Suárez de Figueroa.

On the other hand, it is said that its initial name was San Francisco de Dolega, founded in 1795 by the friars of Dolega.

The first inhabitants of this region were the Dorace Indians.

In 1862, it was established that Chiriquí would be divided into eleven districts, including Dolega.

Experts say that in 1904, this district had about 4,259 inhabitants.

Dolega has three important rivers: Majagua, Cochea, and David.

The district offers a wide range of tourist options, including the El Caño spas, Los Almohadones, natural spas of the David River, the Line Trail, the colonial Chorro, the Church of San Francisco de Asís, the Tres Estrellas garden, and it also has one of the largest waterfalls in Panama, located in the Cochea River with an excellent view.
